One of the priority programs of the first semester of the professional activity of the GTK Business Consulting Club, operated by the Antal Zsolt Foundation, was the communication and presentation technology training series. Within the framework of the program, a total of 5 training (each lasting 2-2.5 hours) took place, which was held by Dr. Magor Kádár, a communication specialist and an associate professor at Babeș-Bolyai University. It was planned that the trainings would originally have been live, but the government action on the coronavirus did not allow for physical presence, so we heldit online using the Zoom platform.
The first time was on October 26, 2020, attended by recently admitted junior members of GTK. During the training, the participants analyzed the short, 1-minute introductory video submitted during their application at GTK, the expert drew attention to the communication and presentation technical shortcomings, errors, and the members also had the opportunity to analyze each other’s video material and express their opinions. For the next time, the presenter asked the members to keep a performance diary covering their professional and personal development.
The second training was organized on November 9, 2020, where the students had to present the task given in the previous training, which was supplemented by the opinions of the presenter and other students. The specialist then held a presentation on the importance, interpretation and application of nonverbal communication in the presentation technique. Then, during the training, the students also reported on their own experiences, and then they analyzed the presentations of famous lecturers and other people.
The third module took place on December 7, 2020, where the specialist held a training on presentation techniques for GTK members. During the training, first of all, GTK members thought in groups about on the structure of a good presentation, what are the mandatory elements, and how to deal with unexpected situations. This part was followed by a joint discussion and addition. The next task was to analyze the final of an international competition in small groups; highlighting positive and negative traits and naming elements that junior members can incorporate into their presentations to make them as professional and effective as possible. During the training, Magor Kádár answered and supplemented the students’ questions and comments.
On December 14, 2020, the fourth communication training took place, which was about the specifics of online negotiations, meetings, presentations. Four aspects were touched upon: the transformation of nonverbal gestures, awareness-raising and maintenance methods, content versus visual illustrations, and the strengthening of verbal communication, all of which are significant in adapting to changes caused by the virus. During teamwork, four teams addressed each of these topics, and then members presented their comments, problems, and possible solutions to the other GTK students. Then the others added the thoughts that were still expressed in them on the topic and discussed with the expert how to present them skillfully and effectively online.
The fifth time took place on 15 December 2020, where the specialist briefly summarized the topics covered in the previous 4 trainings, and students were also able to ask questions about what they had heard and learned in the training series. In the second half of the training, they presented their current industry analysis, in which the specialist observed the use of the tools and techniques told during the training, as well as analyzed the members’ presentation techniques and indicated the areas to be improved.
