Excellent results at the Cluj-Napoca Case Study Competition in 2011
Continuing the 16 year old tradition started by the partnership of several local institutions, the Hungarian Department of the Babeş-Bolyai University’s Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Pro Oeconomica Association organized the faculty case study competition anew, which starting this year is called Cluj-Napoca Case Study Competition for Students. The event took place between the 6th and 10th of April 2010.
13 teams signed up for this year’s contest, each composed of 4 members. The contestants had close to 3 days to finish their work, the solutions being required to be sent in until 6 PM, April 8th. The competition being open, all teams could lean on any kind of external support material.
The case study was based on a local software firm called msg systems Romania which is an offshore branch of a large German enterprise. The company is predominantly faced with issues regarding human resources, as it wishes to achieve radical growth in terms of employees in the near future. Suggestions were to focus on optimizing recruiting strategies and establishing an efficient internal communication system and a strong corporate culture, so msg systems Romania may become one of the most attractive employers on the local labour market. While coming up with solutions, the contestants were asked to consider that Cluj-Napoca’s IT-market is very competitive and saturated.
The presentations were scheduled to take place on the 10th of April in two 4-team sections and one 5-team section. Only one team could qualify from each of these sections to present their work to a compound jury. Runners-up in each section received diplomas of mention. The finalists: team ONE, team Főnix and team Vertigo.
The members of the jury all represented well-known companies (OTP Bank Romania, AAM management & information consulting Ltd., Autonet Import Ltd., Bibas Group, Deloitte Romania, E-Star Alternatív SC, East Consulting Ltd., Etalon Team, General Facility Management Romania Ltd., Marso Ltd.).
