Our GTK students provided business consulting to the top management of the Canadian oil company Cenovus Energy

As a reward for their global victory at the Energy Bowl 2021 international case competition, four master students (including three GTK alumni members), András Borsos (1st year Corporate Finance Manager), Péter Deák (Enterprise Management, 2nd year), Kelemen Kincső (Enterprise Management, 2nd year) and Bálint Sata (1st Master of Corporate Finance Management) had the chance to present their solution – a strategy to meet the company’s net zero emission goal by 2050 – to the executive team of the Canadian oil company Cenovus. Our students won a historic first prize in an international case study competition called the “EnergyBowl Case Competition 2021” organized by the University of Calgary, Canada, as well as being the only team to receive the special prize. The top executives of the Canadian company highlighted that the proposals of the Cluj-Napoca student team were very close to reality in strategic, scheduling, management, and financials.

The presentation, which was attended by both the organizers of the competition and the leaders of the company, took place on April 22, 2021. The case study competition and thus the presentation was built around two main issues: in the first round, Canadian company executives were curious about artificial intelligence solutions for their company, and in the final round, the team had to develop a net zero emissions strategy. The solution of the team from Cluj-Napoca supported the possibility of future implementation of various existing and still under development technologies with detailed calculations, which greatly contributed to the success of the team. Following the presentation, the solution was discussed in detail.

The preparatory teachers of the team are dr. Levente Szász, dr. Lehel-Zoltán Györfy and dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz.

Congratulations to our master students for their excellent achievement and for winning this extraordinary consulting project!
