Financial course
During the second semester, the GTK members had the opportunity to take part in the financial course series held by Levente Szász, GTK coordinator.
On March 31, the junior members of the GTK attended the first financial training, which was held by Levente Szász, vide dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Babeș-Bolyai University. The training began with a short and detailed theoretical presentation, in which the different types of financial statements and their specifics were explained. On this occasion, the income statement was discussed and structured in detail. With the help of Levente Szász, the students made a detailed and usable income statement in Excel for a fictional company. The income statement can be a useful tool in any competition, and also at the university. During the financial training, the students not only learned the tricks of preparing the income statement, but also enriched their knowledge with useful Excel tricks.
On April 13, 2022, the active GTK members participated in the second financial training held by dr. Levente Szász. The students expanded the income statement of the fictive aquapark created in the first course, and learned, among other things, the use of depreciation and bank interest in creating an income statement. As a first step, they worked together, and then to further master the procedure, they worked individually. They have also learnt about initial investments and then got some interesting information on how banks give loans to their customers and what the pros and cons of different loans are.
On 1st June 2022, the third financial training of the semester took place, which was also held by dr. Levente Szász. During the training, the students continued to work with the financial plan which was already built up during the previous sessions. This time, a balance sheet was prepared to detail the status of the company’s wealth. During the training, students were provided new knowledge, but this course was useful in completing the the knowledge gained in the university.
The last financial training of the semester took place on 24th June. During the event, the first-year GTK students prepared a Cash Flow-analysis of the fictive company, which was based on the income statement and balance sheet generated so far. After creating the Cash Flow, the students calculated the net present value of the company.
We would like to thank dr. Levente Szász for the practical financial training series!
