Our members participated in a summer school in Vienna!
Between June 30 and July 4, 2025, the AI & Music Summer School took place in Vienna. The summer school was dedicated to exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and music. The event was organized by Modul University Vienna in collaboration with JAM MUSIC LAB Private University.
Three students representing the Department of Economics and Business Administration in Hungarian Language of Babeș-Bolyai University and the GTK Business Consulting Club participated in the program: Balázs Burkhardt (Business Information Systems, 1st year), Adél Izsák (Finance and Banking, 1st year), and Benedek Lázár (Business Information Systems, 1st year), accompanied by PhD student Réka Izsák. The student team took part in the summer school as a prize for winning second place at the international case study competition Modul Business Championship, held in April.
The goal of the summer school was to showcase, through an interdisciplinary approach, how artificial intelligence is transforming the music industry, education, and creative processes. Participants attended lectures and practical workshops in an inspiring setting on the campus of Modul University Vienna.
The sessions were led by renowned academics and researchers, including:
- Dr. Daniel Dan, Lecturer at the Department of Applied Data Science at Modul University Vienna, who delivered interactive lectures on machine learning, text mining, and deep learning models.
- Dr. Ralf Schoellhammer, an international relations expert at Webster Vienna Private University, spoke about the role of culture and values in the context of technological advancement.
- Prof. Richard Graf, Vice Rector for Education and Digitalization at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University, who spoke about the connection between music pedagogy and contemporary music.
- Prof. Oliver Schmellenkamp, Head of the Media Music Department at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University, who introduced participants to the fields of film composition and music production.
The BBU and GTK students actively engaged in creating AI-assisted musical compositions, analyzed the creative potential of artificial intelligence, and gained new insights to support their professional growth. Throughout the event, they had the opportunity to connect with students, professors, and industry experts from other international universities.
Special highlights included visiting the stunning Ehrbar Saal, attending a panel discussion on AI and music at the WeXelerate innovation hub, and participating in the final presentation day of the summer school. During this final session, participants presented in teams their projects they had developed over the week, envisioning the future of music in 2030, 2040, and 2050.
The summer school was a meaningful, inspiring, and forward-lookin experience for the participating students.
