Double victory in Vienna! Our students achieve first and third place at the Modul Business Championship!

Between May 9th and 11th 2024, the international case study competition Modul Business Championship, organized by Modul University and Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) in Vienna, took place. The Department of Economics and Business Administration in Hungarian Language and GTK Business Consulting Club was represented in the Viennese finals by two three-member teams. After an online qualification round for Central and Eastern Europe, two BBU teams from Cluj-Napoca advanced to the on-site final round with eight teams. Team Orient, composed of master’s students, stood atop the podium in the grand finals, thereby winning a study trip to China. The members of the Orient team were: Ábrán Kinga-Réka (Corporate Financial Management, 2nd year master’s), Pastor Kende-Ferenc (Business Management, 1st year master’s), and Szekernyés Péter (Business Management, 1st year master’s). Team Lokomotiv GTM, consisting of first-year bachelor students, secured third place in the finals. The members of the Lokomotiv GTM team were: Forró Gellért (Finance and Banking, 1st year), Hadnagy Magor (Management, 1st year), and Ilyés Tamás (Management, 1st year). The preparation of the Cluj-Napoca teams was coordinated by associate professor Dr. Györfy Lehel-Zoltán, professor Dr. Szász Levente, assistant professor Dr. Rácz Béla-Gergely and PhD student Izsák Réka.

The topic of the competition was to maintain and increase the competitiveness of Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB), the Austrian state railways, compared to other public transportation sectors. The teams proposed various ticket bundles for ÖBB, identifying the main target groups and also developing a fitting marketing strategy.

On May 10th, the case study was solved on-site; after receiving the written case study, the teams had 24 hours to develop their solutions. The next day, the solutions were presented to the professional jury, first in the semi-finals and then in the grand finals, where three teams competed against each other. The GTK teams delivered outstanding performances and ultimately stood on the podium, claiming first and third place.

Congratulations to our teams for the excellent results!
