Elite and mass education – report
On March 13, 2014 the GTK – Business Consulting Club from Cluj-Napoca and the Mathias Corvinus Collegium from Budapest organized the first MCC-GTK Roundtable Discussion on the topic of “Mass vs. Elite Higher Education”. Several experts in the domain participated on the event representing local and foreign institutions for higher education, colleges for advanced studies, and the business sector.
The invited experts were: dr. Helen Roberts, Professorial Research Fellow of the University College London, dr. Rodney Baker, Emeritus Professor of Government,London School of Economics, dr. Konrad F. Kaschek, plant manager of Bosch Automotive Electronics emerging markets greenfield site in Cluj-Napoca, dr. Răzvan Mustaţă, the vice-dean of Babeş-Bolyai University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and Tombor András, the founder and president of Mathias Corvinus Collegium. The moderator of the event was dr. Kádár Magor, associate professor of Babeş-Bolyai University, Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences.
During the roundtable discussion the invited speakers reflected on the issue of elite higher education, and agreed that in the same time education should be available for a large mass in order to ensure that many different ideas are expressed, which together can form the basis of future development.
The event continued with the official opening of the common MCC–GTK office in Cluj-Napoca and ended with a festive dinner.
On the next day the junior members of the GTK – Business Consulting Club continued the discussion with dr. Helen Roberts and dr. Rodney Baker, on the actual economic, politic and social issues.
