Excellent performance at the Central European Case Competition 2023

Our students did very well at the fifth edition of the Central European Case Competition in Budapest. The competition, organised by Corvinus University of Budapest and CaseSolvers, took place from 13-19 April 2023, with 16 university teams competing in a 5-hour and a 24-hour case study. The GTK and Babeș-Bolyai University were represented by Kristóf Balázs (Business Informatics, 2nd year), Zsófia Bánffy (Finance and Banking, Management, 2nd year), Kata Kovács (Finance and Banking, 2nd year) and Dóra Szőke (Management, 3rd year).

During the 5-hour case study solving, students had to provide a sound strategy to address the problems and issues of the House of Music Hungary. During the 5-hour case study, the GTK team competed against teams from the University of Guelph-Humber (Canada), the University of Southern California (USA) and the University of Melbourne (Australia) within the division. In the division, the University of Guelph-Humber advanced into the finals, while the GTK team earned a group third place with their solution.

During the 24-hour case study, the Cluj team competed against teams from The Chinese University of Hong-Kong (China), HEC Montréal (Canada) and the eventual winner of the competition, the University of Southern Carolina (USA). The case study, which took 24 hours to solve, was provided by Navitasoft, for which the student teams had to propose an expansion strategy. The team from the University of Southern Carolina advanced in the finals.

The team was coached by dr. Lehel-Zoltán Györfy, dr. Levente Szász and dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz and accompanied by Miriám Nagy, manager of the GTK Business Consulting Club.
