Excellent performance on the case study competition of the Norwegian School of Economics

The team composed of four GTK students delivered an excellent performance on the NHH International Case Competition 2022, organised in-person in Bergen, Norway. Competing with the teams of highly-ranked American, Asian and Western European universities, the team of Zsófia Bánffy (Management and Finance and banking, 2nd year), Krisztina Bokor-Tóth (Management, 3rd year), Kende-Ferenc Pásztor (Management, 3rd year) and Péter Szekernyés (Finance and banking, 3rd year) had a solid performance during the group stages.

The case study competition organized by the NHH Norwegian School of Economics took place on October 3-7., 2022 with the participation of 12 universities from 3 different continents, including the team from Cluj. During the competition, the teams had to come up with a complex solution for Norway’s largest company specialising in the global marine transport of chemical liquids, Odfjell, on how the company should continue to operate with a special focus on sustainability.

In the semi-finals, the team from Cluj-Napoca had to compete with the University of Technology of Sydney (Australia), the University of Alberta (Canada) and the University of Melbourne (Australia). Although the judges said that the competition for the qualification in the finals was extremely close, the team from the Canadian university made it to the final.

Beside the above-mentioned teams, the following universities have taken part in the competition: Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary, NHH Norwegian School of Economics (Norway, California Polytechnic State University (United States), University of Glasgow, Adam Smith Business School (Scotland), Aarhus University (Denmark), University of South Carolina (United States), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Haas School of Business – University of California Berkeley (United States).

Team coordinators were Dr. Lehel-Zoltán Györfy, Kincső Kelemen, Dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz and Dr. Levente Szász, while Miriám Nagy, the manager of the GTK Business Consulting Club, accompanied the team to the competition.
