Financial training series
During the second semester, the GTK members had the opportunity to take part in the financial course series held by Levente Szász, GTK coordinator.
On 8 March 2023, the first-year GTK students attended a finance training held by dr. Levente Szász.During the training, the students had the opportunity to gain insight into the basics of financial analysis. During the 2-hour event, the GTK students designed the financial analysis and forecasts for a coffee-to-go café, together with the trainer. In addition, they were introduced to basic concepts such as operating profit, profit before taxes, and gross margin, among others, which are an integral part of the income statement. Overall, the training provided all participants with a detailed understanding of how to prepare a realistic and comprehensive income statement and financial forecast, which will not only help them in solving case studies but will also be essential knowledge in the real corporate world.
On 5 April, the first-year GTK students attended the second financial training of the semester. On this occasion, they continued the financial planning of the imaginary company. They learned more about the concept of amortization through various exercises and also managed to gain some insights into interest rates and loans. This training helps first-year students to get a better understanding of the world of numbers, which can be a great help when making entrepreneurial decisions.
On 26 April, the third Finance training course was held, also for first-year GTK students. The juniors built up the financial statements of a fictitious company created on previous occasions, and after the profit and loss account and investments, they now worked on the balance sheet. On this occasion too, the students were able to add a lot of new information to their knowledge.
On 10 May, the first-year GTK students participated in the fourth finance course of the academic year, led by dr. Levente Szász. This time, the students continued their financial analysis of a fictional company, where they constructed the Cash Flow statement. During the training they were able to learn several new financial terminology.
On 17 May, the first-year GTK members attended the last finance training held by dr. Levente Szász. This time the task was to calculate the enterprise value of a fictitious company, GTKafe. Based on the income statement, balance sheet and cash-flow analysis created in the previous training sessions, the members calculated the net present value of the company and its rate of return. Overall, the GTK students acquired very useful knowledge through a realistic and interesting example of a company.
We would like to thank dr. Levente Szász for the interactive and very useful training!
