GTK students developed data-driven solutions to US companies at the international case competition hosted by the University of Minnesota!
Between March 31 – April 4, 2025 the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management hosted an international case competition in Minneapolis (USA), an event focusing on management information systems and digitalization trends. A total of 16 university teams took part in this event, the majority of them from North American countries. A team representing the Babeș-Bolyai University was also invited to this competition, who have offered – according to the jury feedback – complex and applicable solutions in business practice.
The competition included two separate rounds. During the 8-hour round the teams had to develop an online integrated platform supporting local produce farmers in the state of Minnesota in better reaching their final customers and in creating a strong local community around their businesses. During the 24-hour case students had to create a data-driven decision support system for a local brewery, supporting thereby its strategic growth objectives.
Team BBU was formed by three students from the GTK Business Consulting Club, namely Ábel Dimén-Varga (Business Information Systems, 3rd year), Boglárka Hajdó (Business Information Systems, 2nd year) és Tófalvi Krisztián (Business Information Systems, 3rd year). The team was coached by dr. Levente Szász, dr. Lehel Györfy and dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz.
While the students from Cluj-Napoca delivered convincing solutions in both rounds, the team from Georgia State University managed ultimately to qualify from the division to the final of the competition. Simon Fraser University from Canada emerged as winners of the final.
Congratulations to our students for the outstanding performance demonstrated throughout this prestigious competition!
