I. and III. prizes, as well as runner-up and social award at the XXIX Case Study Competition of Cluj-Napoca

This year, for the 15th time, the Hungarian Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (BBU) organised the Case Study Competition for high school students. In addition, more experienced university students also competed in the Case Study Competition of Cluj-Napoca. High school and university students competed in the building of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in Cluj-Napoca from 18-19 March.

This year, as in previous years, the teams had to work on a real-life case, the task being to boost the Székely Csürke brand. On Sunday 19 March, at 9 am, the faculty building was already buzzing with students, all eager to present their solution to the professional jury and to gain new insights and ideas after the presentation.

About the competition

“This year, 15 high school teams and 11 university teams participated in the Case Study Days of Cluj-Napoca and all of them did a great job. The winning teams received a total of over 25,000 lei and gift packages donated by sponsors. At the same time, it is important to underline that all the teams that have made it this far are winners, as they have had an extraordinary professional experience and have built new contacts that will certainly help them when it comes to finding a job,” said dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz, director of the Hungarian Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of BBU.

The 2023 Case Study Days of Cluj-Napoca were launched by the semi-finals of the XV Case Study Competition for high school students, from which two teams from Cluj and two teams from Odorheiu Secuiesc advanced to the finals. The grand prize of 3000 lei and the VIBE Festival tickets were won by the team from Tamási Áron High School, Econspire, from Odorheiu Secuiesc. While the finals of the high school competition were taking place, the university students competed against each other during the semi-finals. In the final of the competition, the grand prize (a cash prize of 4000 lei and VIBE Festival passes) was won by the GTK Unit team, which included Zsófia Albert and Anna Bugár, who were also part of the winning team of the recent NIBS Worldwide Case Competition.

About the case

“The task of promoting the Székely Csürke product may have seemed difficult at first for the competing students, but all the finalist teams have faced the challenge very well. The challenge for the competing students was to come up with a plan to make the brand the market leader in Romania by 2027. The jury also included Dénes-Zsolt Laczkó, CEO of Poultry Investment Group, who personally invited the winning teams to compare their own plan with the company’s already developed strategic plan. This is a great opportunity for them to discuss with company executives about the solution.” said dr. Levente Szász, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Hungarian Institute.

After the finals, the students had the opportunity to ask the jury in person feedback, to get new ideas and insights from them, and to meet them at the event’s reception, which was a great help in launching their future career paths.

The finals of the Case Study Days of Cluj-Napoca were organised this year between 18 and 19 March at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of BBU.
