Our students developed a strategy for an American non-profit organization at the international case competition in Washington!

Between February 3-7, 2025 the Georgetown Universitu in USA hosted the „McDonough Business Strategy Challenge 2025”, an international student case competition hosting a total of 17 university teams from all around the world. The team representing the Babeș-Bolyai University (BBU) in Cluj-Napoca and the GTK Business Consulting Club was one of the three European teams that had the opportunity to compete in this event in Washington DC.

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of BBU was represented by four students, namely Richárd Boros (Management, 2nd year), Magor Hadnagy (Management, 2nd year), Kata Szalontai (Business Information Systems, 3rd year) and Tófalvi Krisztián (Business Information Systems, 3rd year). The team was coordinated by university professor dr. Levente Szász, dr. Lehel-Zoltán Györfy, dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz and PhD student Réka Izsák also taking part in the training of the students.

Teams participating in this competition had 31 hours at their disposal to develop a strategy for Friendship Place, an NGO helping homeless people in Washington DC, focusing specifically on expanding the service scope of the organization and involving Gen Z representatives in the activity of the organization as volunteers or donors. The team from Cluj-Napoca comepted in the same division with three other teams from the US. Although the performance of the team was very much appreciated by the judges, the team from George Washington University managed to qualify from this division to the final round of the competition, winning ultimately the third place in the final. The competition has been won by the team representing the University of Hong Kong, while the team from the University of Hong Kong csapata nyerte, a dobogó második fokára pedig a Pennsylvania occupied the second place on the podium.
