Our Students Secure Second Place in Their Division at an International Case Competition in Canada!
From October 11 to 16, 2026, four of our students represented the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FSEGA) at Babeș-Bolyai University at an international case competition hosted by the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. The competition brought together 12 teams from around the world, including Hong Kong, Ireland, and Canada. The team from Cluj-Napoca won the 12-hour case challenge in its group and finished second in its division.
The team consisted of András Gergő (GTK alumni, Finance and Banking, 3rd year), Farkas Benjámin (GTK Junior Member, Business Information Systems, 2nd year), Pulbere Viktor (GTK alumni, Management, 3rd year), and Ladó Viktória (GTK alumni, Finance and Banking, 3rd year).
During the competition, the students tackled two business cases, competing against teams from the University of Guelph and HEC Montréal in their division. The first challenge gave participants five hours to develop a comprehensive digital marketing and sales strategy for Neutrogena, drawing on current trends in the skincare industry.
The second challenge focused on the rapid transformation of Canada’s financial sector. With twelve hours to complete the case, the team was tasked with developing a strategic plan for Peoples Group, a financial services company, with particular emphasis on stablecoins. Their outstanding solution earned them first place in their group in the 12-hour challenge, helping them secure second place in their division.
In both rounds, the teams presented their solutions to panels of senior company executives and experienced industry professionals, who evaluated their recommendations and challenged the participants with questions following their presentations.
The team’s preparation was supported by Dr. Levente Szász, Dr. Lehel-Zoltán Györfy, Dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz, PhD candidate Réka Izsák, and Tamás Zoványi. Boglárka Fazakas also accompanied the students to Waterloo, providing guidance and support as both a chaperone and a mentor.
Congratulations to our students on this outstanding achievement and on representing FSEGA and Babeș-Bolyai University with distinction on the international stage!
