Our students win gold medal at the worldwide business case competition in China!

Students representing the Babeș-Bolyai University (BBU) and the GTK Business Consulting Club secured victory at the 29th edition of the NIBS Worldwide Case Competition, held between March 16-21, 2025 in Nanchang, China at the Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics. Following the global qualifiers held in 2024, 16 university teams from 13 different countries advanced to the final championship round of the competition. Our team delivered an excellent performance, qualifying as division winners from the group stage. BBU students delivered outstanding performances in both the semifinals and finals, ultimately winning the world champion title of the 2025 case competition.

Representing the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the BBU and the GTK Business Consulting Club, our students competed in the group stage against the teams from LAB University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Universidade de Brasília (Brazil), and St. Mary’s University (USA). Showcasing an excellent performance, BBU students advanced as division winners to the semifinals of the competition, where they managed to defeat the team representing the Technological University Dublin (Ireland). In the final, our team faced another three finalist teams from Heilbronn University (Germany), Rotterdam Business School (Netherlands), and EPHEC (Belgium). Based on the evaluation of the jury, team BBU has won the final of the competition, securing thereby the champion title of the 29th NIBS Worldwide Case Competition.

The BBU team was composed of Richard Boros (2nd year, Management), Boglárka Fazakas (2nd year, Business Information Systems), Gergő Kolozsi (3rd year, Marketing), and Krisztina Kozma (2nd year, Management). The team was coached by dr. Levente Szász, dr. Lehel Györfy, and dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz. The team was accompanied to the competition by PhD student Réka Izsák.

Throughout the competition, the participants had to demonstrate their business acumen by solving five case studies, including topics such as developing a global expansion strategy for an African women’s clothing brand; proposing solutions to boost Saudi Arabia’s inbound tourism from China; creating a corporate culture and HR development strategy for Seams and Stitches; designing a franchise and expansion plan for ChopValue, a company specialized in recycling chopsticks; and, in the final, crafting a strategy for Tencent Games to leverage business opportunities in the “survival, open world and crafting” game category.
