Second place in division and special bursary won by GTK students at the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition 2023
Between February 26 – March 5, 2023 Concordia University in Montreal hosted the 2023 edition of the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition, the largest and one of the most prestigious international case competitions in the world. Based on the results achieved during the last years, the team representing the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babeș-Bolyai University (BBU) and the GTK Business Consulting Club had the opportunity to take part in this event, achieving a remarkable result by earning the second place in their division and in the same time winning a bursary of 3500 Canadian dollars based on the application essay.
Altogether 28 teams have taken part in this competition representing prestigious universities with outstanding results on past international case competitions in the last 3 years. Within the competition the team from Cluj had to compete in the same division with the University of Münster (Germany), Universidad de Navarra (Spain) and the National University of Singapore (Singapore). Members of the GTK team were Kristóf Balázs (Business Information Systems, 2nd year), Péter Szekernyés (Finance and banking, 3rd year), Evelin Székely (Business Information Systems, 3rd year) and Dóra Szőke (Management, 3rd year).
During the competition participating teams had to solve three 3-hour cases and one 24-hour case. The BBU team had a remarkable performance, winning one of these rounds and achieving altogether a second place in the division, in front of the teams from Germany and Spain. The first place of the group has been won by last year’s champions, the National University of Singapore who finished ultimately on a third place in the final. Beside these results, the GTK team has also won a special prize woth 3500 Canadian dolalrs based on the application essay to this bursary. Ultimately, the competition was won by the University of Florida (USA), followed by the Western University (Canada) on the second place, while the third place of the podium was occupied by the team representing the National University of Singapore.
