Silver medal for our students at the global case study competition in Rotterdam!
Students representing the Department of Economics and Business Administration in Hungarian Language of Babeș–Bolyai University and the GTK Business Consulting Club achieved an outstanding international result, winning all three preliminary rounds to advance to the finals of the prestigious Rotterdam/Carleton International Case Competition as group leaders. Thanks to their remarkable performance, the team from Cluj-Napoca secured second place in the six-team final, earning a silver medal for BBU in this highly competitive international field.
The international case competition was held between November 17–22, 2024, organized by Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. Sixteen university teams from ten different countries participated in the event. BBU and the GTK was represented by the team operating under the name Capri-Sun Consulting, whose members were Boglárka Fazakas (Business Information Systems, 2nd year), Boglárka Hajdó (Business Information Systems, 2nd year), Magor Hadnagy (Management, 2nd year), and Krisztina Kozma (Management, 2nd year). The team’s preparation and coordination were overseen by Dr. Levente Szász, Dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz, Dr. Lehel Györfy, and PhD student Réka Izsák, who also accompanied the team to the competition.
During the preliminary rounds, the students had six hours per round to develop comprehensive solutions for the given corporate case studies. Competing against teams from universities in Thailand, Mexico, and Ireland within their group, our team triumphed in all three rounds, advancing to the finals with the highest score.
In the final, the top six teams faced off, tasked with addressing challenges presented by the Dutch company Bolidt. Specializing in the production of synthetic flooring, Bolidt sought solutions to issues related to human resource management and environmental sustainability. Our team impressed the professional jury with their excellent and innovative proposal, securing second place and a silver medal. The Rotterdam host team claimed the gold medal, while the bronze went to HEC Montréal from Canada.
The participation of the BBU and GTK students in the Rotterdam competition was supported by the Petry Group, to whom we would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks for contributing to the professional development of these young talents!
