“Taking a life for a walk” – lectures held by dr. David Sims

On 26 March 2014, Dr. David Sims, professor at the City University London – Cass Business School held a lecture and a series of seminars at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca. The title of the lecture was ‘Taking a life for a walk’, which was followed the next day by the seminars focusing on the idea of ‘Leadership as distributed heroism’.

During the course, Dr. Sims talked about the similarities of storytelling and leading, emphasizing the importance of communication in organizations. Listening to each other’s stories creates bonds upon which long-lasting and fruitful relationships can be built. Furthermore, it is essential that the message one wants to communicate be delivered in the right context, according to the situation at hand.

The seminars focused on the issue of leadership as art and on the leadership skill of the students attending. In an interactive fashion, several public life examples of decision making were debated and analyzed. Following this, the students shared their experiences and views on leadership, emphasizing the areas they want to improve in and the ways they want to achieve that.

The event was organized by the Mathias Corvinus Collegium from Budapest and the GTK – Business Consulting Club from Cluj-Napoca.
