Victory at the NIBS Worldwide Case Competition 2023!
Our students have won the NIBS Worldwide Case Competition 2023, which was held from 5 to 10 March 2023 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, USA. Following the global qualifying round, a total of 16 university teams representing 13 different countries qualified for the competition. The GTK student team advanced from their group to the quarter-finals where they had to compete against the team from the Netherlands. By winning in the quarter-finals, the GTK team advanced in the semi-finals where they competed against the team from Germany and in the final of the competition against the team from Canada where they won the 2023 tournament title.
In the US competition, the student team representing the Hungarian Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (BBTE) and the GTK Business Consulting Club competed in a group with teams from Avans University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), Budapest Business School (Hungary) and LAB University of Applied Sciences (Finland). The team from Cluj-Napoca with excellent performance advanced to the quarter-finals, where they competed against Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands). Thanks to its excellent performance, the GTK team made it to the semi-finals of the competition. In the semi-finals, the team from Cluj-Napoca was competing against Heilbronn University from Germany. Our students also won the semi-final and went through to the final of the competition, where they battled it out with Bishop’s University from Canada for first place. The team from Cluj-Napoca successfully overcame the final hurdle to win the 2023 tournament title.
During the competition, the GTK team from Cluj-Napoca took the top step of the podium by solving three 4-hour and three 3-hour international case studies in six days. During the case study solutions, the teams had to propose a strategy and action plan for the challenges faced by Fortum India, Uniqlo, Indurtex, GRW South Africa, Shakti Plastics and Arcos Dorados Colombia.
The Cluj team consisted of Zsófia Albert Sarolta (Finance and Banking, 2nd year), Krisztina Bokor-Tóth (Management, 3rd year), Anna Bugár (Finance and Banking, 2nd year) and Kende-Ferenc Pastor (Management, 3rd year). Dr. Levente Szász, Dr. Lehel Györfy, Dr. Béla-Gergely Rácz were involved in the preparation of the team from Cluj-Napoca. The team was accompanied to the competition by Miriam Nagy, GTK’s Managing Director and UBB alumni.
